Suggestion 1: Right to conduct MSR

 

 

Reiterate that all states have a right to conduct marine scientific research, under Art 238 of the Convention.

Suggestion 2: Compliance with regulations to protect marine environment

 

 

Refer to principle in Art 240 of the Convention that: “marine scientific research shall be conducted in compliance with all relevant regulations adopted in conformity with this Convention including those for the protection and preservation of the marine environment”.

Suggestion 3: Other principles for the conduct of MSR

 

 

Refer to other principles for the conduct of MSR listed in Art 240 of the Convention, i.e.:

  • Peaceful purposes
  • Appropriate scientific methods and means
